My parents got married very quietly with a simple ceremony attended by only a few close friends. They received three wedding gifts, one of which was this clock.
When I was very little, my German grandmother sent me two tiny gray feathers from her pet bird. They sat just inside the rim of the clock face. I used to love to see them there and marvel at their delicate fragility. One day I discovered they were gone. Apparently the housecleaner opened up the clock dusting, didn't notice as they fluttered to the ground and then swept them up. Funny the things you remember from when you were a child.
